Falling into November

Highlight Moments:

1. Remembrance Day Celebration - As a school we celebrated Remembrance Day with a video. Each class created a short video and our video was about poppies. Each student created a beautiful poppy for our classroom wreath. It was so nice to see all the photos of everyone's loved ones who fought or helped in the war.

Current Learning:

 1. Classroom Routines - We have made tremendous steps in learning all the different routines in the classroom and around the school. We have learned out daily schedule and are able to attend our various work stations with more focus.

2. Task bins - in our class this year we are doing center time a little different. Instead of sharing and using the same materials at 3 different centers, we have all our learning activities in a Task Bin. Each student has their own task bin filled with various learning activities that are tailored to each students current learning. Every morning after circle time we excitedly get to our task bins and have fun completing many activities. These activities include puzzles, writing, sorting activities, fine motor activities, numeracy activities, and calendar activities, etc.

3. Colour of the Month was RED - We had a blast learning about the colour RED. We chose red in honor of Remembrance Day. We love singing our Red song, and going on scavenger hunts for everything and everything that is red :)

Getting ready for outside time :)

Enjoying the beautiful sunny weather that we are so lucky to have!

October 2020

 Happy Halloween!!

This month was a fun one :) Our classroom got to celebrate a few fun days:

  1. Thanksgiving - celebrated by learning about being thankful for our each and everyone of our families, no matter how different they may look
  2. First Day of Snow - we got to trek threw the snow during our walks, and explore how it feels, smells and sounds like
  3. Halloween - the kids had a great time decorating pumpkins, making crafts, dancing, counting and reading about pumpkins!

Spotlight Moments:

Social Skills - Our students really got to develop some new and amazing friendships! I am so proud of our class for learning to play with others with socially appropriate interactions of sharing, taking turns, initiating conversations and asking to join in on others games.

Social Studies - As we continue to learn about our individual selves and our community, this month we focused on our unique families, and will be continuing this into November. All our families look so different. Some of us have brothers, or/and sisters, moms and/or dads, or special, loving guardians. But there is one common thread, and that is Love

Functional Living Skills - This month we continued to learn all our new routines and transition times and strategies. We enjoy doing our task bins, where we have individualized learning activities that are specific to our learning needs. We continue to develop our independence in our daily living using the Prompting Hierarchy model. We continue to become more independent in our every lives.

Self-Regulation - Our class has been learning that we are all different and we all have different needs. We are learning that it is okay to be upset or angry, and that there are appropriate ways to calm down. Each of us have different strategies that work for them to help them when they are upset. We will continue this learning into November with The Zones of Regulation.

September 2020

 Happy Fall!!!

Wow! I can not believe it's already October. We have had an exciting and run first month of school :) We have already had some special days that we've celebrated and acknowledged.
  1. First Day of School - there were a lot of emotions this day! So much excitement and nerves.
  2. Terry Fox Run - we got to burn our energy running and walking for this event.
  3. Orange Shirt Day - we read books about accepting each others differences and then decorated our own orange t-shirts.

Spotlight Moments:

Social Skills - The students enjoyed exploring their new classroom, school, playgrounds, peers and staff. They are currently learning the social skills of building new friendships, sharing and initiating conversations with others. There are so many budding friendships happening already.

Social Studies - Currently our class is learning about our own selves and our community. We have noticed that we are all very different and that that is okay :) We look different. We have different interests. And our personalities are different. But together as a class we are an awesome team!

Functional Living Skills - While exploring our new environment, we have been learning all the new routines as well. How we arrive to class after getting off the bus is the first routine we have been learning. We start our day by hanging up all our gear and then going to the bathroom. We come together as a class to have some fun in circle time. We also are learning a new routine around our individual programming with our  very own task bins. But it doesn't stop there! We also have routines for snack time and lunch time.

Wow so much learning and it's only been one month! Lots to come this month. Stay tuned :)
